A Charleston company that is developing a mobile medicine cabinet for health-care providers appears to be off and running as it seeks to bring its automated dispensing device to market.
Sabal Medical Inc., formerly of Seattle, recently raised its first institutional round of a reported $2.68 million in financing led by Massachusetts-based Nexus Medical Partners and its German affiliate, Medicis Ventures Management GmbH.
Sabal also recently relocated its Daniel Island headquarters from Fairchild Street into a larger space to Island Park Drive to accommodate its project growth.
The company was established in Washington but moved to Charleston in late 2006 with the help of S.C. Launch, a state-funded organization that provided it with $150,000 in seed capital.
The company said it plans to use its latest round of financing to help roll out MedCenter, a high-tech movable cart designed to match patients with the proper medications, including narcotics. Last month Sabal hired a new senior executive, Jay Flynn, to head up the sales and marketing push.
